See It Work: Three Quick Examples

Finding a cube root. Press MATH, scroll to option 4 (∛()), type the number, say, 27, close the parenthesis, and hit ENTER. ∛(27) returns 3.

Graphing a function and reading its roots. Press Y=, type a function next to Y₁, for example, X²−4, and then press GRAPH. Use ZOOM → 6 (ZStandard) if the curve doesn’t fit the window. For Y1 = X²−4, the graph crosses the x-axis at −2 and 2; TRACE lets you confirm it point by point.

Standard deviation from a data set. Press STAT → 1 (Edit) and type your values into L1. Press STAT again, arrow to CALC, choose 1 (1-Var Stats), and press ENTER. The output gives you both Sx (sample standard deviation) and σx (population standard deviation) alongside the mean.
